CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Jonah "Wight" Reid

Character Information: No End takes place in an unnamed, unspecific location that has been devastated by the zombie apocalypse -- called the "undead" in this universe. People live mostly in zones that are guarded or protected, the military is a really big deal and the undead are still a constant problem or concern for pretty much everyone.

Jonah Reid was in that aforementioned military and he had a lot going for him -- considering he was in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and all. One half of a trained sniper team (the other member of the duo being his older sister Jenn), he had stability. A steady boyfriend after a lot of screwing around -- quite literally. Talent and precision when it came to his job. Safety. Security.

With that level of surety can also come a sense of cockiness. See. Jonah was a bit of a playboy. He was carefree to a fault, only just recently having settled down with one steady lover -- previously he was known for flings and cheating with multiple men at once. Jonah was known for pushing boundaries and a bit of carelessness; trying to get away with things other people couldn't because he knew that he could, between his charisma and his good looks. That's what led to his tragic accident.

After being bitten by a zombie after a stupid mistake on duty, it was discovered by his sister that Jonah wasn't exactly like all the others that turned. He changed rapidly, sure -- but he was still mentally sentient. That zombie was her brother, unchanging like the others that became mindless and obsessed with flesh. This caused a bit of a ruckus within the military, an institution based on rules and rigorous regulations. While other members of the squad wanted to kill him, his sister and commander (also an ex-lover), Cotton, spared him, leading to a life on the lam after killing several military members who wanted to shoot Jonah like the undead he appeared to be.

Now a wanted man and outcast, Jonah and his two saviors are constantly on the move. Their military skills mean surviving is a bit simpler, but they still live in a near constant state of danger. Across a two year span before the comic starts, Jonah takes on a new identity and mental outlook. While he had begun to settle down and stop going so buck-wild shortly before his turning, becoming undead has caused both trauma and some much needed reevaluation of his prior life choices.

Personality:

That history section brings us to where Jonah, now going by his military ID "Wight," is now. Becoming undead changed him, which seems like an obvious statement. His skin grew pallid and cold, the area which the undead ate (his lips) remained hanging without healing, leading to his wearing a half-face mask that conceals his injury and promotes his speech. His eyes have sunken in. He can't eat or sleep anymore. Wight's muscles have also visibly atrophied -- he was once pretty muscular; not the most buff, but he's certainly a waif compared to who he once was.

Perhaps the biggest change, however, has been a mental one. The once confident Wight has lost almost all his self-esteem. He's dead. He's deformed. The man who once got whatever he wanted, whether through sex or charm or simply asking for it, isn't that same person anymore. His military talents remain, and his patience necessary for sharp-shooting has made the transition a bit more bearable, but his confidence has greatly plummeted. Wight tries desperately to hide his physique, his speech impediment, his new true self. Wight was once someone who was a thrill-seeking, promiscuous man. Now he's quiet, cautious and a complete introvert, incapable and certainly unexpecting of physical affections, while also accepting a new life devoid of emotional connection outside of Jenn and Cotton.

Wight's manner of speech speaks greatly to this sudden loss of confidence, and also his physical transformation. Engaging in casual conversation, he stutters with his robotic voice adapter and speaks cautiously. Given the right person or conversation, he can talk quite a bit -- he definitely misses the old days where his confidence shined through, and this shows when he does feel comfortable enough to open up to someone. When Wight feels safe with you, sometimes you can see a glimmer of that person who he once was -- a tad bit of charisma, a little cheekiness. But forming that level of trust when he knows who and what he is now...that's certainly difficult.

Because of the accident and what it's done to his travel companions (now on the run from the powerful military), Wight holds a lot of guilt. He's cautious and much more careful now; he now holds a pessimistic attitude instead of his former careless blasé. He's also very protective of Jenn, though his desire to not be isolated anymore has potentially put his team in danger before. He leans heavily on his sister Jenn, who in kind does the same. They have something of a codependency (more so on his sister's side than Wight's, but it's still mutually present). She's one of the two people who he can still trust and confide in as a major part of his life. For as guilty as Wight is and for as much as he knows that he should be treated like a monster by most, he still very much wants to connect with others, despite thinking he doesn't deserve to.

The guilt that he feels, as well as his strong feelings of connection with those he is close to, Wight is a fiercely protective person. Later on in his canon, Wight is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, ending his life and succumbing to capture in order to free his sister, his friends, the guy he feels a romantic attraction towards. His sister is an especially big example of this -- since they do have a large codependency, and Wight sees her as like a mother-figure in his life, Wight would do absolutely anything for her.

Because of this want and need he feels to be removed from his isolation, Wight can be loose-lipped -- well, despite not having any, anyway. He's very quick to say how he feels about a person, and if he wants to connect with someone and believes he can trust them, he's very capable of spilling secrets about his life or his desires. Again, Wight's desperation is paradoxical: he wants to protect those around him (a.k.a. Cotton and Jenn), but he also wants to go back to that normalcy of living before he turned. That means trying to let people in...but it's dangerous to let people in when you're a zombie on the run.

Wight is also very self-conscious about his new status as a member of the undead. Again, he was something of a playboy back in the day. Wight was trying to straighten out his promiscuity prior to turning, but his status as undead was certainly a rude awakening to how awful he'd been in the past. He had many different boyfriends, sometimes more than one at a time (whether one party knew or not was up in the air), and was obviously confident in himself. Now he's thinner, has no mouth, no ability to have sex (because of his potential to spread infection and inability to become physically aroused). He looks sick and his skin is terminally cold. He's changed a lot in how he thinks of relationships -- it's something he can't take for granted anymore, even though in his mind it's not like he's in a position to be in a relationship anyway.
